摘 要

英文纪录片的字幕翻译是一种比较特殊的翻译活动,其主要目的是在时间空间文化等因素的制约下,向处在特地文化背景下的目的语观众传达真实有效的信息,真实再现英文纪录片所承载的文化信息,使观众能更好理解和欣赏英文纪录片。

将目的论作为研究纪录片字幕翻译的原因有两点∶一是之前关于字幕翻译研究的大多以功能翻译理论作为指导,过于宽泛,针对性不强;二是目的论因其自身的优点对字幕翻译有更好的指导性。

本文以 BBC《英国史》作为案例研究,选取其中字幕翻译实例作为分析对象, 将目的论作为理论指导应用于字幕翻译的实践中。本文旨在探索英文纪录片字幕翻译的特点、及限制条件,从目的论的三原则分析译文的准确性。通过目的论指导下的英文纪录片字幕翻译的研究,作者期望纪录片及纪录片字幕翻译能引起更多人的关注。

A Study of English to Chinese Subtitle Translation of A History of Britain from the Perspective of Skopostheorie

Introduction

With its reform and opening-up policy, China has experienced an increasing closer relationship with the rest of the world. Films and television programs, including a special form, documentaries which show the real pictures and tell the true story, play an important role in cultural communication. The purpose of documentaries is not to entertain the audience, but to educate them and to provide information for the audience.

This thesis will focus on the study of E-C subtitle translation and further explore the three rules employed in A History of Britain from the perspective of Skopostheorie. The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics, techniques and restrictive conditions of English documentary subtitle translation. Through the study of English documentary subtitle translation under the guidance of Skopostheorie, the author hopes that the documentary and documentary subtitle translation can attract more and more people's attention.

To be specific, Part One focuses on the introduction about A History of Britain English to Chinese subtitle translation including classification feature and some restrictions of the development of English to Chinese subtitle translation.

Part Two is to introduce the Skopostheorie including the development process and the three principles of Skopostheorie.

In the third part, it mainly concentrates on the three principles combining with the subtitle from the perspective of Skopostheorie.

In the last part, a natural conclusion of this paper will be obtained.

2.1.1 A brief introduction of A History of Britain

"A History of Britain" is a documentary released by BBC in 2002. It is mainly about the origin and development of England, the alternation of dynasties and the important events in history such as the Norman Conquest, the glorious revolution, the parliamentary reforms and so on.

A History of Britain is a historical account of the history of England, recorded from the Mediterranean Iberian people. In the 1-5 centuries, the island of Rome was ruled by the southeast of Great Britain. After the withdrawal of the Romans, in the north of Europe, Anglo Saxons invaded and settled in this place. Beginning in seventh Century the formation of the feudal system, many small countries and seven kingdoms hegemony establish over 200 years, known as the "Anglo Saxon era".

The Duke of Normandy came to conquer England in 1066. In 1215, King John was forced to sign the Great Charter, and the monarchy was suppressed. From 1338 to 1453, Britain and France carried on "The Hundred Years’ War" and Britain won first and then was defeated. In 1588, he defeated Spain's "invincible fleet" and set up maritime supremacy. In 1640, Britain began the bourgeois revolution in the world, and became the pioneer of the bourgeois revolution. The Republic was proclaimed in May 19, 1649. The restoration of the dynasty in 1660 and the "Glorious Revolution" in 1668 resolved the constitutional monarchy. In 1707, England merged with Scotland, and in 1801 it merged with Ireland.

From the second half of eighteenth Century to the first half of nineteenth Century, it became the first country in the world to complete the industrial revolution. Nineteenth Century was the heyday of the British Empire. Colonial possession is 111 times more than the local big in 1914, which is the first colonial power, self-proclaimed "empire". After World War I it began to decay.
