摘 要

随着社会的发展,英语不再是一种学习科目,更多的成为了一种交际手段和方法。在这个信息化时代,英语的听说能力尤为重要,而中国学生恰恰缺乏这种能力。本文将从提高学生英语听说能力的角度进行研究,并探究其问题产生的原因,将翻转课堂与传统中国英语课堂进行比较。研究结果表明:(1)课前,翻转课堂的课前准备调动了同学自主学习,在学习的过程中也锻炼了学生的听力能力;(2)课中, 翻转课堂具有人性化和个性化,翻转课堂的活动形式有利于提高学生的团队合作意识和竞争意识,给予学生更多的学习和锻炼口语的机会,是学生只是内化的一个过程,同时改变了学生被动学习的现象,有助于提高学生的学习热情和积极性;(3)课后,学生之间积极互动与交流,增进同学之间的友谊同时共同进步。

1. Introduction

According to the United Nations survey of the distribution and application of the main languages in the world, it shows that English is the most common languages in the world, and ten percent of people in the world can speak English. English is an essential skill to participate in social activities as well as workplace life. Recently, there has been growing interests in English study models. People begin to pay attention to Chinese traditional education, and they find that the way students learn and the required by courses have a big gap. It can not help students improve their ability of English listening and speaking.

During the reform of English teaching, we should remember the purpose of learning English: We should give full play to the role of communication tools, and use appropriate English communication. However, at present people lack this ability. In general, children start learning English in primary school from third grade to sixth grade, followed by 3 years of junior middle school and 3 years of senior middle school English learning. Most universities continue to provide formal English education for 2 years. However, after so many years of English learning, most students still cannot use English freely. When communicating with foreigners, they still can not speak English fluently. In order to change this phenomenon, the government has put forward the most important target of the new English education curriculum reform is to change the situation that commonly found in the present education: the students learn passively, mechanical memorizing, and repeated exercising, so as to advocate the change of learning method, and to improve students’ listening and speaking ability.

In order to improve comprehensive English application ability which mostly in the ability of students' listening and speaking, many scholars have discussed from the theory. And people gradually found that the reform is imperative. In this process, Flipped Classroom as a new form of education comes into people's sight.

1.1 The problems in the English study

Nowadays, in the current situation of English teaching, from the beginning of exposure to English, most individuals think it as a course, only pay attention to the subject of true or false. Few people think that English is a language, which needs to be spoken and listened. Some educators and learners emphasize memorization and the accumulation of English knowledge such as vocabulary and grammar rules, which leads to learning English for many years, they still act like a deaf person when they meet foreigners(Dai, 2001). Students should learn how to use the knowledge to communicate instead of receiving sufficient attention. In theory, learners have mastered the declarative knowledge, but did not have enough procedural knowledge. In the language, the two are indispensable. This is the main reason why students are poorly heard and speaking. But in fact this is also due to the traditional Chinese education.

All above resulted that people have studied English a lot of years, they still act like a deaf person when they meet foreigners. Some people think it results in education, but it should be decided by many factors. On the one hand, in the actual teaching, due to the impact of traditional Chinese education concepts and methods, for a long time English course is still in the traditional teaching mode, which is that teachers teach and accentuate the students to study and master knowledge passively, and this kind of instruction mode imprisoned the students' thinking to let them just accept but not take the initiative to thinking. On the other hand, the passivity of the students and the dominance of the teachers constitute enormous obstacles for students' practice and use of language in communicative contexts. All in all, the traditional education mode can not meet the training of students' listening and speaking ability. The direct result is that the students lack the ability of language communication and practice.
