A Study on the Narrative Techniques in Murder on the Orient Express

  1. Introduction

Agatha Christie(1890-1976) is a famous detective novelist in the UK. She is a heavy-producing novelist. She has written hundreds of works. She has created a different mode that the case always happened in a closed cite and the murderer was a person who was involved in the case. Nowadays, many detective novelists adopt this mode in Japan and Occident. Her works impact the UK society. Her works are loved by the ordinary people even Queen Elizabeth II. For her unique narrative techniques and graceful style of writing, her was praised as Queen of detective.

In her novel, Murder on the Orient Express, her portrayed the Belgian sleuth man Hercule Poirot. When Poirot hitched the Orient Express, one of the passengers died. He decided to solve the case. The truth was that the victim called Samuel Rachel was killed by the 12 avengers in the Orient Express.

The overseas studies the novels of Agatha Christie almost started from the 18s. The people in the UK praise Agatha Christie as the Queen of reasoning. They have taken on two major trends:

First, Agatha Christie is called literary magician in the UK for her conception of the story and the fluency and graceful language; second, her works express her female consciousness that impacts the society at that age. Millions of fans the world over got to know her beloved characters, Hercule Poirot, Miss Jane Marple, and the rest, yet for decades little was known about their creator. Dame Agatha Christie was a woman who scrupulously kept her private life hidden from view, dodging the press, granting no interviews, and even, for a brief time, famously disappearing. (Christie 554)

Studies of Agatha Christie in China begin from the publish of the Mysterious Affairs at Styles in 1920. Even since then, Chinese people have began to come to understand the Agatha Christie’ s works. Chinese people were attracted by the Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot. In those days, some conservative were even oppose to the spread of the Agatha Christie. But it could not stop the people to seek for the new thought that Agatha Christie brought to China.
