摘 要

通过互联网学习英语对于当今英语学习者,尤其是大学生来说早已不是新事 物。近十年来,移动电子设备在大学生生活中发挥着不可或缺的作用。年轻的大 学生们逐渐脱离传统的英语课堂上的学习模式,在移动设备与互联网的帮助下, 开发出各式各样新颖且有效的英语学习途径。移动技术突破了时间和空间的限制, 为大学生获取所需资源提供了不同类型的平台。本文旨在研究移动技术对大学英 语学习所带来的新趋势,选取了武汉大学的本科生为样本,对武汉两所高校进行 了问卷调查,试图了解移动技术对大学英语学习产生的新趋势。调查表明:大学 生们更倾向通过智能手机使用音频进行碎片化英语学习,且大多对移动英语学习 持积极地态度。并提出了把读写留给传统课堂,听说流向移动课堂,使用离线与 在线混合式教学模式的建议,以期提升大学英语的学习效果。

Learning English through Internet is no longer a novelty for today’s English language learners, especially young college students. In the last decade, mobile electronic device, one of the greatest inventions in the 21st century, has played an inevitable role in college students’ life. Young college students have gradually got rid of the boring traditional English class and developed different kinds of new English learning method with the help of Internet and mobile devices. This paper investigates the new trend in college English learning brought by mobile technology. Choosing undergraduate students in Wuhan as a sample, this paper tries to analyze the new trend in college English learning with the data from two universities in Wuhan. The result shows that college students tend to use their smart phones for fragmented English learning and most of them have a positive attitude towards mobile English learning. It is suggested that teachers should leave the reading and writing to the traditional classroom, hear the flow to the mobile classroom, and use the off-line and online mixed teaching mode, in order to improve the learning effect of college English.

Introduction

Background

Over the last decade, the mobile Internet technology in the Chinese mainland has developed rapidly, and a variety of mobile devices have emerged one after another. With the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, mobile technology is no longer just a phrase from textbook. It slowly permeates every tiny gap in our lives. In addition to traditional laptops, new interactive electronic devices such as smart phones and tablet computers have become an indispensable part of the public life. From mobile payment to artificial intelligence, the rapid development of mobile technology means that our lives have undergone tremendous changes.

There is no doubt that contemporary Chinese mainland undergraduates can be said to be a generation which have witnessed the development of Chinese Internet mobile technology. On January 22, 2016, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released the 37th Statistical Report on the Development Status of China’s Internet, showing that as of December 2015, the number of mobile Internet users in China reached 620 million, accounting for 90.1% of the total Internet users who have access to the Internet through mobile phones, and are more concentrated in Internet users in the 20 to 29 age group (Chen amp; Cao, 2016). College students are still the largest group among them. It can be seen that the way of surfing the Internet through smart phones has become extremely common among college students.
