摘 要

中华文化博大精深,源远流长,而“民以食为天”,可见饮食文化在中华文化中所占地位之重。中华美食风味多样,特色鲜明,早有上千年历史。随着全球化的发展和纪录片《舌尖上的美食》的热播,越来越多的外国友人来到中国品味中华美食,而中华美食也通过各种渠道走出国门,走向世界。在此背景下,如何准确地英译中国菜名无疑成为了宣扬中华饮食文化的重中之重。

本文以目的论,功能对等论,跨文化交际理论和释意理论这四种理论为指导,结合

《舌尖上的中国》第二季中的菜名,通过查阅资料、翻译实践以及结合翻译实例,归纳 出中国菜名英译的策略及方法,并总结出翻译理论、翻译策略及翻译方法这三者的关系。

Abstract

With a long history, Chinese culture is extensive and profound. As the saying goes, “Bread is the staff of life.”This shows the importance of food culture in Chinese culture. Chinese cuisine has a long history of thousands of years, with a variety of flavors and distinctive features. With the development of globalization and the popularity of the documentary A Bite of China, more and more foreigners come to China to taste Chinese food while Chinese food also goes abroad through various channels. In this context, how to translate Chinese dishes names into English accurately has undoubtedly become the highest priority in promoting Chinese food culture.

In this paper, based on the perspectives of Skopos Theory, Functional Equivalence Theory, Cross-Cultural Communication Theory and Interpretive Theory, strategies and methods for C-E translation of Chinese dish names in A Bite of China II are explored. Through consulting materials and translation practice, the relationships among translation theories, translation strategies and translation methods are summarized.
