With the deepening of reform and opening up and the rapid development of social economy and science and technology, the shortcomings of the traditional training mode for English majors are gradually exposed, such as the lack of social adaptability and innovation awareness of English majors. Therefore, the cultivating mode of applied talents has received more and more attention and discussion.
Based on the framework of Applied Talents Training Mode for English majors in science and engineering universities, this paper aims to find some effective ways to cultivate English majors with other professional knowledge, so that they can use their professional knowledge freely in social practice and be familiar with the trend of social needs. Based on the theory of applied talents cultivating mode and the current situation of teaching mode reform at home and abroad, this paper explores the commonness and innovation of English teaching reform, and provides some references for the reform of English major in science and engineering universities in China.
By analyzing the teaching reform mode of English major in science and engineering universities from various perspectives, the author of this paper holds that in order to take the road of innovative development of English majors, we should take the national development strategy and the future goal of training English talents as the guide, take full account of the current development situation of English majors in science and engineering universities, and carry out certain reforms and innovations from four aspects: teaching methods, teaching contents, teaching assessments and major setting.

Analysis on Applied-oriented Teaching Reform of English Major in Universities of Science and Engineering
With the globalization of economy and the promotion of One Belt One Road initiative, the cultivating mode of English majors in universities of science and engineering has been endowed with both challenges and opportunities. To solve the graduate unemployment problem faced by most English majors, actual needs of the society need to be regarded as the primary step to cultivate more applied talents for the construction of the socialist modernization. It is found that the traditional training mode can no longer keep pace with the times. Therefore, measures should be taken as soon as possible to reform the cultivating mode of English majors in universities of science and engineering.
This paper aims to analyze the teaching reform of English majors in science and engineering universities from the cultivating mode of applied-oriented talents, dissect the reform measures of foreign language teaching in China and abroad, further explore the commonality and innovation of English teaching reform and provide the future reform with a more comprehensive reference.
Teaching Modes of Current English Major
Globalization and the “One Belt And One Road” strategy have brought opportunities and challenges to English major. Current teaching modes have been unable to meet the requirements of the new era (Ding, 2017).
