摘 要

随着信息化时代的到来,大量欧美电影作品涌入中国市场,电影字幕翻译作为获取信息、享受娱乐的重要工具，地位越显越重要。

本论文以电影-功夫熊猫的字幕翻译研究作为切入点，借助Reiss和Vermeer提出的目的论，对电影功夫熊猫字幕翻译进行个案研究，重点剖析了在功夫熊猫里字幕翻译过程中应遵循的原则，以及在电影字幕翻译中运用到的策略。

On Study of Kung Fu Panda’s Subtitle Translation from the Perspective of Skopos Theory

1. Introduction

In the 21^st century, globalization is not only limited in the economic field, but it also penetrates in many other fields, such as culture, society, life and so forth. The emergence of films adds more fresh elements to life. As is known to all, nowadays, films play an extremely important role in cultural communication of different countries. Besides, in the cultural communication and spread among nations, the cultural transmission that film translation provides and works is of great significance.

During recent years, the impacts of subtitle translation become more obvious. Subtitles can be divided into two types, one is intra-lingual subtitling, and the other is inter-lingual subtitling. Actually, inter-lingual subtitles are what people call subtitle translation, which translates the characters’ dialogue in the film. When the film is presented, subtitle translation will be showed beneath at the bottom of the film screen. Subtitle translation is not only a transmission between two languages, but it also is a process of cultural transmission and transplantation. According to the intentions of the directors and writers, subtitle translation is supposed to pass on the most effective and related information to the audience who are of different cultures under the limited time and environment. As a result, the translation should be natural and easy for people to understand and coincident with audience’s language habits, thus making audience understand the dialogue easily and effectively in a short time without delaying the appreciation of the film.

The introduction of Skopos Theory gives us a brand-new perspective into the explanation of translation. Vermeer, a famous German translator, firstly put forward the theory. He believes that translation is a behavior of human while every behavior has its own purposes. Therefore, translation is a purposeful behavior (Nord 11). With this theory, people believe that the anticipated translation methods and functions

This paper aims to study the subtitle translation of Kung Fu Panda from the perspective of Skopos Theory. The basic information of subtitle translation and Skopos Theory will be firstly presented, followed by the details of case study, Kung Fu Panda, introducing the principles and techniques of subtitle translation used in the film.
