  1. Introduction

Charles Dickens was a 19th-century British critical realist novelist. Dickens paid special attention to depicting the life experiences of the “little people” who lived in the bottom of British society. It profoundly reflected the complex social reality of England at that time and made outstanding contributions to the development of British critical realism literature. His works are still prevalent so far and have had a profound impact on the development of British literature.

David Copperfield is Dickens’s novel, known as his “favorite child in the heart.” The book uses first-person narrative, incorporating many of the author’s own life experiences. The novel tells the story of protagonist David’s life journey from infancy to middle age. Taking David’s birth as a source, the novel introduces the sincerity and darkness of friends, the naivety and impulse of love, the sweetness and trivialness of marriage, the contradiction and harmony of family members.Through the mixed colors and opportunities, as well as humorous language, the book showing a vast picture of Britain in the mid-19th century, reflecting Dickens’s ideal ——world full of good and justice.
