  1. Introduction

Humor is a kind of laughter and aftertaste, widely existing in Chinese and Western languages. Humorous language cannot be separated from the cultural traces of its closely connected use and understanding. In English, the word comes from Latin, and the original meaning is “bodily fluids.” It is said that in ancient Greece, a doctor named Hippocrates believed that people’s body fluids were blood, mucus, yellow bile, black bile. Humor can be divided into visual humor and verbal humor. The visual humor conveys its humour visually. It aims to visualize humorous thoughts in the contrasts between normal and abnormal, rational and absurd, orderly and messy, true and blurred, form and content. In films or plays, it can be represented by clothes, props and posture. The verbal humor is a category of humor which is used to express humorist ideas through language. It can be analyzed from semantics and pragmatic aspects. There are many types of verbal humor used liberally by comedy writers to spice their work such as pun, mixed metaphor, satire, irony. The introduction of the term humor in the form of transliteration of "humor" into Chinese was first advocated by Lin Yutang in 1924. However, it is undeniable that Chinese and English humorous language styles also have certain differences. The main reason for this is that the two are different because of the differences in Chinese and Western cultures and ways of thinking. The differences between Chinese and Western humorous languages are mainly reflected in humorous content, functions, language types, and forms of expression, causing differences.
