摘 要

随着教育国际化程度的加深,外籍教师已经成为我国高校英语教学中的一股重要力量,他们一般受聘于讲授英语口语等课程。为了更好地贯彻以学生为课堂中心的教育理念,满足学生对口语课堂教学的具体需求,我们通过问卷调查和访谈等方法,对江苏省3所高校的54名英语专业学生进行了调查,主要关注学生的所思所想,内心情感以及对所开设的口语课堂的真实想法。本文从学生对外教口语课堂活动的反馈、类型、方式特点和组织等4个方面全面剖析学生对外教英语口语课堂教学的具体需求。研究表明(1)在口语课堂活动的反馈方面:学生希望获得口语水平的评价标准,并以此来监测和评估自身口语成绩。(2)在口语课堂活动的类型方面:学生更期待外教老师多安排小组讨论、辩论或者访谈类活动而不是使用提示来练习口语。(3)在口语课堂活动的方式特点方面:学生期待最大程度地使用英语与他人交流。(4)在口语课堂活动的组织方面:学生希望外教分组时能考虑到学生不同的语言水平。本文基于上述研究成果提出了一系列教学启示。

An Analysis of English Majors’ Demands for Oral English Teaching

This chapter shows a detailed preface on the research background, significance and the whole structure of this thesis.

1.1 Background of the Study

Social demand for learning has been increasing, which stimulates foreign language teaching reform. At the same time, students’ learning desire pushes the oral English teaching development. Just take the latest revision of college English teaching syllabus as an example, one of the objectives of college English teaching is to cultivate students’ speaking proficiency and ensure that they can become fluent English speakers in future. In China, lots of universities hire native English teachers for English majors in oral classes while speaking activities are treated as their main teaching form and become very popular. However, large numbers of English majors can’t speak English fluently as expected and they are not competent enough to deal with work or service for further study. Obviously, although they have finished their oral classes successfully and seriously, learners still can’t make full use of knowledge they have acquired during the class to make fluent communications. Among the reasons for this phenomenon are the rigid organization or teaching mode of the class, inapplicable teaching materials and the negative impact of testing, etc. Whereas, the most important point is the imbalance between learners’ demands and teachers’ teaching. Native English teachers come from different countries and their language backgrounds are various. Therefore, some of them can’t organize oral English classes in an appropriate way or consider students’ learning level and focus on their learning demands. With regard to this background, it is urgent to do a research to figure out English majors’ demands in oral English classes and try to improve oral English teaching as well as students’ oral competence.
