摘 要

建筑工程英语隶属于 科技英语的范畴 ，随着经济全球化的深入发展，建筑工程英语的实用范围越来越 广 ，在国际交流中 的作用 越来越重要。当前 我国 综合国力 迅速 腾飞，涉外工程在海外 蓬勃 发展 ，社 会对既 懂 专业知识又懂英语的建筑工程人才的需求日益迫切 ，越 来越多的国内学者开始聚焦探索建筑工程英语的学习策略，为建筑工程英语的发展起到了推波助澜的作用。本文以学习建筑工程英语的实际意义为切入点 ，简明扼要 地分析概述了建筑工程英语与 日常 英语的异同点 ，分别 从词汇、句法 和 语法三大层面深析其特点并探究高效适用的学习 策略，如构词法、词汇记忆法、句子分解法 ， 语法学习法等， 旨在让相关学习者更好地学习建筑工程英语，提高学习效率，起到事半功倍的效果。

Abstract

Building Engineering English is a branch of English for science and technology(EST). With the in-depth development of economic globalization, the practical range of English for science and technology(EST) has been broadened extensively and it is playing an increasingly important role in International communication. At present, as the overall national strength of China is rapidly roaring and foreign-related projects are booming overseas, the society is in great demand for Building Engineering talents who can understand both professional knowledge and English. Domestically, massive scholars cast their eyes on exploring learning strategies for Building Engineering English and have made great achievements. Based on the practical significance of learning Building Engineering English, this paper succinctly summarizes the similarities and differences between Building Engineering English and common English, analyzes its features and explores efficient and practical learning strategies, such as word formation, lexical memory, sentence decomposition and so on, respectively from lexical, syntactic and grammatical level. The purpose of this paper is to enable relevant learners to get access to learning Building Engineering English and to improve their learning efficiency and to exert a multiplier effect.

Learning Strategies for Building Engineering English

Introduction

Building Engineering English refers to a kind of specialized English used in scientific works, dissertations, textbooks, reports and academic lectures in the fields of building engineering. Compared with common English, Building Engineering English is distinctly different. For instance, it is mainly a written language which requires it to be concise and rigorous. Moreover, unlike the common English, Building Engineering English is not restrained by subjective elements, such as emotion, culture and so on. Therefore, it won’t stimulate readers’ imaginations. In addition, in view of its expertise, the meaning that it tries to express is clearer and more fixed. Actually, there are still some differences in detail that are not mentioned above, which will be drawn in the main body of this paper. However, as a matter of fact, Building Engineering English originates from common English and common English is the basis of Building Engineering English. Both of them sharing one phonetic system, one grammatical system and lexical system, they are essentially the same.

In recent years, as global exchanges move further, the connection between China and other countries becomes tighter and tighter, people with expertise in foreign languages(especially English for it is the most extensive first language in the world) are in huge demand. Building engineering industry, as the industry of important economy pillar of China, has been the pioneer of the “going out strategy’’. Nowadays, China has been dedicating to cultivating those talents proficient in both Building Engineering profession and English. Therefore, learning Building Engineering English is of great significance. To individual, it can enhance ones employment competence. To our country, it enables domestic employees to learn advanced theories and techniques from western countries so that our country’s competiveness in the industry of building engineering can be reinforced. To the world, as the language barrier is eliminated, the communication of thought will be no longer encumbered so that the whole industry will undoubtedly be promoted to a higher level。

Literature Review

The learning of Building Engineering English is of paramount importance in the further development of Building Engineering Industry in China. In domestic, a lot of attentions have been drawn to the studies on the learning strategies for Building Engineering English. Li Chenchen and Chen Meng (2010) insist that previous teaching methods for Building Engineering English should be transformed and the new teaching pattern should take the disparity of learners’ foundational capabilities of English learning. They hold the view that the learning of specialized vocabularies and translation skills is the key to the learning of Building Engineering English. Sun Jiancheng, Han Ying and Liu Zhansheng (2011) explore the translation methods and strategies of Building Engineering English by analyzing concrete examples and claim the learning strategies of Building Engineering English should proceed from the actual conditions. Another scholar Kang Chunjie (2013) divides the learning of Building Engineering English into three parts—lexicon, grammar and syntax and briefly introduces the essence and features of Building Engineering English.
