摘 要

中医知识是中国传统文化的重要组成部分，中国古典文学名著的英译间接促进了中英文化的传播。本论文以《红楼梦》中的中医药的英译为切入点，借助Newmark提出的语义和交际翻译理论，分析比较David Hawks和杨宪益夫妇两英译本在中医药英译上的得失。并在新的时代背景和要求下，提出批判性观点和建设性意见，以期促进传统中医文化的对外传播以及中医英译的研究与发展。

Abstract

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) knowledge is an essential part of Chinese traditional culture. The translation of Chinese classical masterpieces indirectly promotes the transmission of TCM culture. This thesis tries to examine and analyze the English translation of TCM in Hong Lou Meng (HLM) by comparing Hawks’ and Yangs’ English versions from the perspectives of semantic and communicative translation which was put forward by Newmark. Under the new historical background and requirements, critical opinions and constructive suggestions are put forward in order to boost the transmission of TCM knowledge and the study and development of TCM translation.
